Terms of Use
Status: draft for the owner to review. This is not in force. Replace every placeholder in square brackets before anyone relies on this page. These words are not legal advice.
Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
These terms are between you and [COMPANY NAME] of [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. The service is called Hearth. Questions about these terms go to [CONTACT EMAIL].
By creating an account you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. The Community Rules are part of these terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account.
Who may join
Hearth is for adults only. You must be 18 or over. The date of birth is checked against the date in Africa/Lagos. You confirm your age yourself. The box is not ticked for you.
Hearth is a faith-centred introduction service for marriage-minded Christian professionals in Nigeria and beyond. It is not a place for minors, and it is not a promise of marriage.
Your account
You give a name, an email address, and a password. You keep the password to yourself. Tell [COMPANY NAME] at [CONTACT EMAIL] if you think someone else is using your account.
You can delete the account in Settings. Deletion removes the login, profile, photos, selfie, optional identity document, likes, matches, messages, blocks, and reports tied to you, and a waitlist row that uses the same email. It also removes the membership record tied to you. [COMPANY NAME] may keep a payment record for the period in [RETENTION PERIOD], where the law requires it.
Verification
A profile stays hidden until a real person has reviewed it. You take a new selfie, holding two fingers beside your face. The reviewer compares that photo with your profile pictures. An identity document is optional. Only the reviewer can open the selfie and any identity document.
Approval can be withdrawn. A suspended profile is hidden. You cannot submit it again until [COMPANY NAME] restores it.
Review reduces the chance of a false profile. It does not guarantee that every profile is honest, or that a person is who they claim to be.
How introductions work
You choose whether to show interest. A private conversation opens only when two approved members both choose each other. Hearth does not promise a match, a meeting, or a marriage.
Membership
Some features may be offered as a paid membership in Naira, collected by Paystack. The price, the period, and the fact that the membership renews are shown before you pay. Hearth does not see your card number.
A membership renews automatically for the same period, at the price shown when you started it, until it is cancelled. [CANCELLATION METHOD]
If a renewal payment fails, the membership ends. If you cancel, you keep the membership until the end of the period you have already paid for. It does not renew again unless you start a new one.
[REFUND RULE]
Nothing in this section takes away a right you have under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018, including any right to clear information before a recurring payment.
Acceptable use
You follow the Community Rules. In short, you must not harass anyone, run a scam, ask another member for money, use a fake profile, or post explicit sexual content. You must not use Hearth if you are under 18, or involve a child in any sexual way.
[COMPANY NAME] may remove content, refuse a profile, or suspend an account that breaks these terms or the Community Rules. A report from another member is read by the reviewer. A block hides the two people from each other.
Liability
Hearth is a place where members introduce themselves. [COMPANY NAME] is not a party to what members later do offline, and it is not responsible for what a member says or sends.
To the extent Nigerian law allows, [COMPANY NAME] is not liable for a loss that is not a direct result of its own breach of these terms. This limit does not apply to fraud, or to any liability that the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018 or another Nigerian law does not allow a business to limit or exclude.
Changes
[COMPANY NAME] may update these terms. The page will show a new effective date. If a change is material, [COMPANY NAME] will give notice to the email on the account before the change applies, or will ask you to agree again. If you do not agree, you may delete the account.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The courts of Lagos State have jurisdiction. That choice does not take away a right you have to complain to a regulator that Nigerian law keeps open to you, including the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission or the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
